Yes, Kissing Matters!

Provoked by profound emotion........something as simple as a kiss! A kiss can express sentiments of love, passion, affection, respect, greeting, friendship, and good luck, among many others. And as for the "others", one famous kiss was amidst disaster and danger, provoked by loving protection! While another was amidst joy and relief, provoked by gratitude and patriotism!

Whether it's a kiss caught on film, or a kiss we have given or received........a Kiss defines the moment! And the moment becomes our history!

After all the chaotic images that emerged from the Vancouver Game 7 riots last week — burning, looting, fighting — one image instantly became iconic: Scott Jones kissing his girlfriend Alex Thomas, as riot police marched down a debris-covered road. Jones, a bartender from Australia, reached down to comfort Canadian college student Thomas after police knocked her to the ground following Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Boston Bruins and the Vancouver Canucks.

One of the most famous kisses in American history was captured on film in Times Square on Aug. 14, 1945. The Japanese had just surrendered, ending World War II. The New York City landmark was packed with war-weary celebrants. The kiss symbolized so many emotions — an emotional release through which the entire nation could vicariously rejoice. The soldier and the nurse, in the middle of Times Square in 1945, were part of the very backbone of the American war effort. (via Kissing Matters)
